Abstract
Thanks to the AAMLS and JAMTs patronage, many KAMT members have faithfully participated in the annual Photo Surveys faithfully since 1998. This has contributed to the mutual scientific information exchanges among Asian countries. Following survey instructions, Korean participants have answered on annual questionnaire for the last three years. All answers from our respondents for the three years were summed up and analyzed in three groups, microorganisms, blood pictures, and urinary sediments. We compared our Survey Report Data with the AAMLS Photo-Survey Result Summaries. For reviewing the performance of our participants, we chose an institution (hospital) as a unit of analysis. For the purpose of performance comparison, we computed new scores computed from the total number of correct answers. We gave one point per one correct answer. Finally, a total performance score was given for each institution for one year, and computed as the sum of the scores from three different disciplines. In the performance evaluations of 1998, 1999 and 2000, we found that there was a significant difference in performance among different size hospital laboratories in 1998 while no difference in 2000. If we assume that the degree of difficulty in questions is relatively constant, we can imagine that medium size hospital laboratories improved much rapidly coming close to the performance of the largest hospitals. Some questionnaires are thought to be somewhat difficult for some of us. One of the reasons is that it is not easy for respondents to select the correct answer from long list of answer branches. If circumstances permit, the Photo Survey programs will be further developed with some revisions on the questionnaire system under the patronage of all stake-holders including AAMLS and JAMT.
